How do I reactivate my account when the "Account recovery process has been locked" too?

Hi,

My Microsoft account was recently blocked due to unusual activity. When I try to recover my account, I receive the message "Account recovery process has been locked."

The issue is that I cannot even begin the account recovery process. There is no option to enter a phone number or email address to receive a verification code, and no option to select "I didn't get a code" or "I don't have access to any of these." The recovery process appears to be locked before I can access any of the standard recovery steps.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there another way to reactivate my account, or does this require Microsoft Support to manually unlock the recovery process?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Hi Sylvia Chiu,

I understand how frustrating this situation is. Based on your description, the account appears to be locked at the recovery stage itself, preventing you from reaching the normal verification and account recovery options.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access accounts, remove restrictions, or review account status.

As a first step, I recommend submitting the Microsoft Account Reinstatement Form: https://www.microsoft.com/digitalsafety/account-reinstatement

This form is reviewed by the team responsible for account reinstatement and is the appropriate route when a Microsoft account has been locked and the standard recovery flow is unavailable. After submitting the form, monitor that email address, including the Junk or Spam folder. Avoid sending duplicate requests while the review is pending, as this may delay the process.

You can also contact Microsoft Support for help confirming the appropriate recovery route:

    1. Visit the Microsoft Support contact page: Contact - Microsoft Support
    2. In the search bar provided on the page, type "Account Recovery" and press Enter.
    3. Click on the "Get Help" button that appears.
    4. Scroll down the page until you see and click on the "Contact Support" option.
    5. When prompted to select your product or service, choose "Other Products".
    6. For the category, choose "Manage Account Security".
    7. Look for and click on "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".
    8. When prompted, provide a valid contact email where Microsoft can reach you regarding your case.
    9. Explain your situation clearly: Be concise but provide all the relevant details.

Please keep in mind that support agents must follow account security verification rules and may not be able to manually bypass the recovery system. However, live chat is still the right channel to ask if an additional account security review option is available for your case.

For additional information, see Microsoft account has been locked.

I hope the reinstatement team can review your account and provide the appropriate next steps.
