Can't login to outlook.ie email

Hi, my son can't login in to his outlook.ie email address. Microsoft sends code to phone number and when entered to login to his email address, we get the message from Microsoft Something went wrong. Please try again.

This happens each time. His email address is registered as family in my account, and Microsoft email address checker says there are no issues with his email address but Microsoft won't allow him to login, even though the phone number is correct and code sent to phone is entered correctly.

Can someone please help with this issue?

Hello, and thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Is he experiencing the same issue when signing in on a different device or web browser?

    Please try this:

    1. Open an incognito/private browsing tab in your current browser, then sign in with his account at https://account.microsoft.com/ and request the verification code.
    2. See whether he can sign in successfully.

If he gets the same error in a private browsing tab, avoid making repeated sign-in attempts. Wait 24 hours and try again, as this may reset any temporary lock.

Alternatively, try resetting his Microsoft account password once and then see whether he can sign in.

If he is still having issues signing in, let me know, and we can try the account recovery options next.

    1. Stop repeated sign-in attempts for now. Repeated verification requests can trigger a temporary block and prevent codes or sign-in from working.
    2. Try another verification method if one is available on the account. Temporary blocks can be tied to one method, so if SMS is failing after the code is entered, use an alternate email or another sign-in method connected to the account.
    3. Try a different network. Switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or use another Wi‑Fi network. Microsoft notes that sign-in blocks can sometimes be related to unusual activity or traffic from a location.
    4. Wait before trying again. A temporary block can clear on its own. Wait at least 24 hours before retrying, and if it still fails, wait longer if possible, up to 1 week.
    5. If the security info shown during sign-in does not look familiar, first confirm the address is being entered exactly right, including the correct domain such as .ie, .com, or .co.uk. If the address is correct and the security info still does not match, use account recovery.
    6. If access to the listed sign-in methods is no longer available, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to recover or update security info.
    7. Use Microsoft’s sign-in helper tool. It can identify many Microsoft account sign-in problems and guide to the available recovery path: Sign-in helper
    8. If the account still cannot be accessed, contact Microsoft Support. Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details, but they can route the case to the best available support option: Contact Microsoft Support

If the password itself may no longer be working, use Recover your account and complete the recovery flow:

    • Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used to sign in.
    • Choose where to receive the security code.
    • Enter the code.
    • Set a new password if prompted.
