I was contacted by a person who says he works for Microsoft so I want to validate that he is an employee of Microsoft. His name is Jack Miles and his ID is MS50370. I would also like to validate another person by the name of Brian Williams ID # MS13297. Are either of these persons employed by Microsoft?

    Nope, they are not.

Nobody from Microsoft would bother calling you unless you have requested a callback on your own; they won't prove they are working for Microsoft by providing their ID (they are not cops; they don't have a "badge number" they told you :D :D :D)

Hang up, don't give them any remote access to your pc or credentials and move on

This is a community forum. We don't know who works or does not work for Microsoft.

However, Microsoft employees do not contact individual customers. Thus, the person who contacted you is not employed by Microsoft.

If they are claiming to be Microsoft employees, they're being dishonest, so you should be careful to not share any information with them about yourself or your computer.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Could you please share exactly what they told you? That information will help me determine whether this was a scam call.

Microsoft will not contact you directly in person or by unsolicited phone calls and tell you things like your device is infected with a virus, your account has been locked, your files will be deleted, or similar urgent issues.

Make sure you do not share any personal information with them, such as your phone number, email address, credit card details, passwords, or any other sensitive data.

Microsoft does not provide a public way to confirm whether specific individuals (by name or ID) are Microsoft employees, and no one outside Microsoft can reliably verify internal employee IDs.

    To protect against scams:

    1. Do not trust unsolicited calls, emails, or pop‑ups claiming to be from Microsoft support.
    2. Do not grant remote access to the device or share passwords, security codes, or payment information with anyone who contacts unexpectedly.
    3. If a caller or email claims to be from Microsoft:
      • End the interaction.
      • Go directly to the official Microsoft Support site by typing the address into the browser (do not use links provided by the caller or in pop‑ups).
      • Initiate contact with Microsoft support yourself and describe what happened.
    4. If a pop‑up or voice message on the PC is telling to call a “Windows/Microsoft support” number, close the browser or restart the device and ignore the number; these are commonly tech support scams.
    5. If any access or information was already given, immediately:
      • Change passwords for Microsoft and other important accounts.
      • Enable multi‑factor authentication where available.
      • Run a full antivirus scan on the PC.

Suspicious contacts or pop‑ups that instruct to call “Windows support” should be treated as potential scams. Always initiate contact with Microsoft through official support channels rather than responding to unsolicited requests.
