Xbox game licenses and progress are permanently tied to the original Microsoft account (the compromised Hotmail account). They cannot be transferred to a different Microsoft account, even if a new Outlook address has been created.
The only available path is to try to regain access to the original, compromised Microsoft account. If access is restored, all Xbox purchases, game licenses, and associated progress will be available again under that same account.
Use these steps to attempt recovery of the compromised account:
- Make sure all devices used to sign in to that account are clean
- Run a full antivirus/malware scan on PCs and phones used with the account.
- On Windows 10/11, use Windows Defender:
- Select Start.
- Type Windows Defender in Search, or select Windows Defender.
- Follow the on‑screen instructions and run a full scan.
- Change or reset the password
- If sign‑in is still possible, immediately change your password to a strong one.
- If sign‑in is not possible, try to reset your password.
- Use the official hacked/compromised account recovery flow
- Follow the guidance in How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account and, if prompted, complete the account recovery form with as much accurate information as possible (old passwords, recent activity, etc.).
- If the self‑service recovery fails and security info was replaced by the attacker, there is no alternative supported method to move Xbox content to a new account.
- After regaining access
- Review and secure the account: check connected accounts, forwarding, and automatic replies settings.
- Add updated security info (phone, alternate email) and enable stronger sign‑in methods to prevent future compromise.
If recovery ultimately fails, the old account (and its Xbox entitlements) remain inaccessible, and games cannot be moved to the new Outlook account.
