How to add my phone number to account

Please note that the option to Add phone number in the Manage how you sign in to your Microsoft account section is currently missing and this appears to be a widespread issue. It seems to be affecting many accounts and is likely related to a backend or server-side change on Microsoft’s end, rather than a problem specific to your account or device.

This issue has been ongoing for over a week. I suspect that the option to add a phone number to a Microsoft account may have been completely removed for security reasons. However, there is no official confirmation about this yet.

*Microsoft has confirmed that the option to add a phone number to receive verification codes has been removed. Therefore, I think they may also have removed this option from the profile section.

However, I recommend that you submit your feedback to Microsoft through their support channels:

To add a phone number to the Microsoft account used with Microsoft 365/Office:

1. Go to the Manage how you sign in to Microsoft page: https://account.live.com/names/manage and sign in.
2. In Your info / How you sign in, select Add phone number.
3. Follow the prompts to enter the phone number and complete verification (a code will be sent to that number).
4. After it is added, it appears as an alias. If desired, select Make primary to use it as the main sign-in alias.

If Add phone number is not visible, check that the correct Microsoft account is signed in and that the page is opened in a supported browser. Some organizations may restrict adding their email addresses or phone numbers, so if this is a work/school account, contact the organization’s admin.
