Hi

I have Premium Planner, but I don't seem to be able to copy or duplicate a plan which makes it a little frustrating if you have repeating projects?

Is there a reason why this functionality has been removed?

I also can't get Power Automate to connect with premium planner - again is this considered an improvement?

    Hi @Jardine, Anna

I hope you are doing well.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience regarding Planner with Premium plans. After my research, I found that copying a plan is not supported if the plan was created without a group.

That said, when you create a new plan via your Planner, you need to add a group to have the option to copy. In this case, I was able to reproduce the behavior by creating 2 plans:

    • One plan with no group added
    • One plan with a group added

For the plan with no group added there is no “Copy plan” option.

For the plan with "a group added", you will see the “Copy plan” option appear as shown in the image.

For more information, please refer to this official document from Microsoft: Copy a plan | Microsoft Support

Regarding the issue with Power Automate, currently, Planner connectors in Microsoft Power Automate only supports basic plans only. This is by design rather than a misconfiguration.

I completely understand that this creates a gap for teams using Planner Premium as a template for recurring or repeatable projects. While this is currently expected behavior, I strongly recommend submitting feedback directly to Microsoft via the Feedback Portal so the Planner product team can review and prioritize this request in future updates.

In Planner premium plans, copying or moving entire plans is currently not supported. Copying and moving is limited to individual tasks, and even then, copying or moving tasks to or from premium plans is explicitly not supported.

    From the documented behavior:

    • Copying/moving tasks works only for basic plans.
    • “Copying or moving tasks to/from premium plans is not yet supported.”
    • There is no documented feature to duplicate a whole premium plan.

This is why the expected “copy plan” or “duplicate plan” behavior is not available for premium plans and why it appears that functionality has been removed or is missing for recurring projects.

Regarding Power Automate, the provided context does not document support for connecting Power Automate specifically to premium Planner plans, nor any change that would enable full parity with basic plans. The available guidance instead points out current limitations around copying/moving content to/from premium plans, which aligns with the issues being seen.

For now, recurring or template-like usage of premium plans must be handled manually (recreating structure) or via custom solutions (for example, scripts using Microsoft Graph, as mentioned in community discussions), since there is no built-in, supported way to fully copy or duplicate premium plans.
