Have a reoccurring charge every month for account I don’t have

Every month I am charged for a business account. I tried to logon and it tells me I don’t have the proper email address. I don’t have a business account email and I don’t know where this charge originally came from. I’ve been trying for months to cancel it.

    Dear @Coach Laura Mahoney,

I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with this for so long. I understand how frustrating it is to see a recurring monthly Microsoft business charge when you can’t even sign in to cancel it.

Since this is a payment-related issue, I cannot access or unsubscribe on your behalf from the forum, but I can guide you through the quickest way to identify your account and stop the recurring fees.

Step 1: Identify what the charge is linked to (even if you don’t know the email)

Microsoft provides an “Investigate” tool specifically for unexpected charges.

    1. Open Microsoft’s billing investigation page: How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft - Microsoft Support
    2. Go to the Manage your payments area and select “Investigate” for the unrecognized charge. (This is designed to help locate the reason for the charge, including recurring subscriptions.)

This is the best first step when you don’t know which Microsoft account/tenant the charge is tied to.

Step 2: If you still can’t find the account or can’t sign in

Use Microsoft’s official support entry specifically for unexpected charges, including options for: “I don’t have a Microsoft account" or “I have a Microsoft account, but have forgotten the details”

Go here and follow the prompts: Contact - Microsoft Support

Step 3: If you suspect the charge is unauthorized

If you believe someone else may be using your payment method, Microsoft advises contacting your bank/payment provider to prevent future charges (for example, blocking the card or issuing a new one).

If you have any Microsoft account(s), you can also check purchase history here: View your Microsoft Store order history - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps you get this resolved quickly. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Follow these steps to track down and stop the recurring charge:

    1. Investigate the charge in Microsoft’s system
      • Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2246882
      • Select the charge and choose Investigate.
      • This helps identify if the charge is tied to a Microsoft 365 subscription with recurring billing enabled, or if someone else (for example, a family member or colleague) used the card.
      • For more detail on this process, see How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft.
    2. Check if it’s a Microsoft 365 for business subscription
      • If the charge is for a Microsoft 365 for business plan and the account is accessible, sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center (https://admin.microsoft.com) with an account that has admin permissions.
      • Go to Billing > Your products.
      • Select the product that matches the recurring charge.
      • In Billing settings, either:
        • Turn recurring billing Off (so it expires at the end of the term), or
        • Select Cancel subscription and choose whether to cancel now or before the next renewal date.
    3. If the account cannot be accessed
      • If the system reports that the email address is not recognized or the account cannot be signed into, and the charge still cannot be located via Manage your payments, contact Microsoft Support directly for billing assistance. Use the official Contact – Microsoft Support entry point from the Microsoft support site and select a billing/subscription category.
      • If Microsoft Support cannot find the subscription under any Microsoft account, contact the bank or card issuer to dispute the recurring charge and request that they block further payments to Microsoft for that subscription. This is often the only way to stop charges when the underlying account cannot be identified or accessed.
    4. Verify it isn’t a third‑party or app‑store purchase
      • If the subscription was originally purchased through a third‑party retailer (for example, a reseller, Google Play, or Apple App Store), cancellation must be done with that provider. In that case, Microsoft 365 admin center and Microsoft account pages will not show the subscription.
    5. Confirm future charges stop
      • After cancellation (either via Microsoft or the bank), monitor card statements for at least one or two billing cycles to ensure no further Microsoft 365 business charges appear.
