I am getting a Slow Charger warning despite using the supplied charger. I have also tried multiple high wattage USB-C 100W chargers and the Surface charging cannot keep up with demands. The battery will drain while plugged in.

    Hello Andrew Snedeker,

The thread is tagged Surface Studio, but the symptoms sound like a Surface Laptop Studio. Could you confirm the model, and whether it's the Intel integrated graphics or NVIDIA dGPU version? Wattage requirements differ across the line.

The "slow charger" warning and the battery draining while plugged in are the same signal — Windows is saying the adapter can't keep up with the load, so it pulls from the battery. That matches it charging fine when idle. More detail in Microsoft's PC is charging slowly or discharging while plugged in article.

A few checks would help narrow this down:

    • Exact wattage printed on the supplied Microsoft charger (60 W, 102 W, or 127 W), and is it the original in-box one or a replacement?
    • Anything plugged into the USB-A port on the charger, or peripherals/dock on the laptop while you see the warning?
    • Charger plugged directly into the wall, or through a power strip?
    • Have you tried a forced shutdown — hold the power button ~20–30 seconds, then let it charge while powered off?
    • In the Surface app > Help & support, any pending firmware/driver updates?

I'm happy to keep working through it once you share those.
