Hi.

My hotmail account was not receiving mail in my iphone mail app or outlook app so I removed the account and when trying to add it back it says unable to verify account information.

I have also removed the outlook app and when reinstalling that it says 'Unable to log in' There was an unexpected error. Please try again.

Also on my latop the account is 'disconnected' in outlook. I can access the account on my web browser on my laptop normally .

How can I resolve this?

Thanks

    Hi Sioned E,

Since the account still works in your web browser, this looks more like an app/device connection issue than a problem with the Hotmail account itself.

Please try the steps below in order:

    1.For the iPhone Mail app:

Microsoft recently published guidance for an authentication issue affecting Outlook/Hotmail accounts in Apple’s default Mail app. The first thing to try is going to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Outlook and re-entering the password there. If that does not help, delete the account from iPhone Mail and add it again using the Microsoft Exchange / Outlook option, then sign in normally

2.For the Outlook mobile app, it's recommended to remove the account/sync partnership and then adding the account again. If Outlook.com still will not sign in after reinstalling, and the account continues to work in the browser, Microsoft advises contacting support for Outlook.com accounts. For your reference:

3.For Outlook on the laptop showing Disconnected, try repairing the Outlook profile from File > Account Settings > Account Settings > select the account > Repair, then restart Outlook. If the account was originally added as POP/IMAP, older Basic authentication connections to Outlook.com can fail, so removing and re-adding the account as an Outlook.com account may be necessary. For your reference: Fix your Outlook email connection by repairing your profile | Outlook and other apps are unable to connect to Outlook.com when using Basic authentication

    Hope this helps
