i followed the steps my computer said to do unplug the computer and turn it back on but that didn't work

Try restarting the printer itself, not just the computer. Turn the HP LaserJet Enterprise M506 off, unplug it from power for about 30 seconds, plug it back in, and power it on again. Then check whether the printer screen shows any error, paper jam, toner issue, or “offline” message.
On your computer, open the print queue for that printer and cancel any stuck jobs. Make sure the printer is not set to “Use Printer Offline” or “Pause Printing.” If it still will not print, remove the printer from Windows and add it again, or restart the Windows Print Spooler service.
