Locked out of Teams work account affecting whole company

I am unable to access my work Teams account on either my laptop or on the browser, though I retain access on the mobile app, but I am the only one in the company seemingly able to use the mobile app currently.

Across the organisation, no one is able to log in to Microsoft Teams. Outlook seems fine for everyone, and one person is reporting no access to either One Drive, Share Point, or 365 Office tools/apps.

The error message I get is "You don't have the required permissions to access this org / Talk to your IT admin for more info or switch to another account."

Can anyone help?

    Good day @Alex Braithwaite,

Thanks for posting and sharing the details.

If you’re an end user, the best next step would be to contact your organization’s IT administrator and kindly ask them to check a few things on the admin side. These are actions that only admins can perform:

First, it would be good for them to double‑check licensing. In the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, they can go to Users > Active users and confirm that users are assigned a license that includes Microsoft Teams. Even if Teams is already included, it’s worth temporarily removing and re‑assigning the license for a few test users to see whether access starts working again. User's image

In the same portal, they should also review Org settings, select Microsoft Teams, and make sure the option to turn on Microsoft Teams for all users is enabled.

Another important area to review is Conditional Access in Microsoft Entra. A policy change there can sometimes block sign‑ins to Teams. Your admin may want to look closely at any recent Conditional Access policies that could be applying to Teams or cloud apps in general: Microsoft Entra Conditional Access: Zero Trust Policy Engine - Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn

In the meantime, some users have also shared that temporarily switching networks, for example moving from the company network to a personal mobile hotspot, or reviewing firewall and proxy settings, has helped in their case. This can be useful to rule out any network‑level blocking, so you may want to consider giving that a try as well.

If the issue still persists after these checks, I’d strongly recommend that your IT administrator submit a support ticket directly with Microsoft through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Once the ticket opens, a technical support technician can conduct a remote session to investigate the situation, review the backend configurations, and run the necessary synchronization tools to resolve the issue. If further intervention is required, they can refer the matter to a specialized team for in-depth analysis.

Please note that this is a user‑to‑user support forum. Moderators like myself don’t have access to tenant data or administrative tools, so we’re unable to investigate accounts directly. The troubleshooting steps shared above, along with guiding you to the appropriate support team with the necessary permissions, are the most effective forms of assistance we can provide here.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and I hope your organization is able to identify the root cause and resolve this issue as soon as possible.

The error message indicates an organization-level access or compliance/conditional access issue that only an administrator can fix.

    Key points from the symptoms:

    • Teams access is blocked for everyone on desktop/web.
    • One user also cannot access OneDrive, SharePoint, or Office web apps.
    • Outlook still works.
    • The message explicitly says to talk to the IT admin.

    This aligns with:

    • Conditional access or compliance policies blocking access to apps like Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Office apps under certain conditions.
    • Device/network/compliance requirements not being met.

Actions to take (must be done by the organization’s IT admin or Microsoft 365 admin):

    1. Check conditional access / compliance policies
      • The message “You don't have the required permissions to access this org” and the fact that multiple cloud apps are affected suggests a policy is blocking access.
      • Admin should review policies that:
        • Require a specific network (VPN or corporate network) for access.
        • Require compliant or domain-joined/trusted devices.
        • Enforce sign-in via a specific browser profile (for example, Edge with the work account).
    2. Verify device/network requirements
      • If the organization requires a specific network (for example, VPN) and users are not connected, Teams and other apps can be blocked and users may be asked to sign in again.
      • If devices must be joined to the organization’s network or marked compliant, non-compliant devices can be blocked from internal apps and services.
      • For “device not compliant” scenarios, users must:
        • Sign in to Windows with their work account.
        • Connect to the organization’s network (VPN/DirectAccess).
        • Lock (Windows logo key+L) and unlock the device with the work account, then retry access.
    3. Check for conditional access blocking Office apps
      • If users see messages like “You don't have access to Office apps right now”, common causes are:
        • Device not connected to the organization network.
        • Two-factor authentication required but not completed.
        • Device not joined to the domain.
        • Device not trusted.
      • The same type of policy can affect Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
    4. Check for sign-in risk / MFA / password issues
      • Teams may force re‑sign‑in if:
        • A specific network is required and not used.
        • A sign-in risk is detected and additional verification is required.
        • A password breach is detected and a password change is required.
        • The device does not meet organizational requirements and identity verification is required before continuing.
      • If many failed sign-in attempts occurred, Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication can temporarily block further attempts; admins should review sign-in logs and MFA configuration.
    5. Browser-specific requirements
      • If internal web apps or services require that users be signed into Microsoft Edge with their work account, users may see prompts like “Try signing in another way” and be required to:
        • Switch Edge profiles and sign in with their work/school account, or
        • Sign out and sign in with a different account.
    6. Escalate to the organization’s IT / Microsoft 365 admin
      • Because this is tenant-wide and affects multiple services, only the organization’s IT admin can:
        • Confirm whether there are domain, tenant, or licensing issues.
        • Adjust or temporarily relax conditional access/compliance policies.
        • Check Microsoft Entra sign-in logs and error codes.
        • Work with Microsoft Support if there is a broader service or tenant issue.

Given the scope (whole company, multiple services), the next step is for the Microsoft 365/Entra admin to review conditional access and device compliance policies and sign-in logs, and, if needed, open a support ticket with Microsoft.
