My Microsoft account (display name: Sebastian) is being treated as a child account by Microsoft Family even though I am an adult, and I cannot remove myself or change any family settings. On [family.microsoft.com] my account is the only member listed, there is no organizer shown, and the three-dot menu for profile settings is missing so I cannot remove the account or change roles. When I try to access certain sites or apps, I receive the message “You’ll need to ask to use this site. If you want to — just send a request to an adult in your family — Ask now,” and when I try to request permission I get “Something went wrong. We’re working on it – try again in a little bit” with (Trace ID: 9E/5oTetTU6D0tM+.3.2). If I invite my own email to the family, it creates a duplicate account entry named “Sebastian,” and when that duplicate briefly appears the three-dot menu shows and I can click Remove, but the membership immediately reverts, and the restrictions remain. I have tried signing out and back in, accessing the family site from the same Windows 11 PC and browser, and repeating the invite/remove steps, but nothing resolves the issue. Please verify and correct my account role so it is an adult account (or convert me to organizer) or remove any orphaned/corrupted family membership that is enforcing child restrictions; restore full adult privileges including InPrivate browsing and access to blocked apps/sites. Or just plainly remove my Microsoft account from Microsoft Family. I can provide screenshots of the family page, the blocked-site message and Trace ID, and the exact account email if you need it.

I just chatted with the Microsoft support chat. They told me when they looked at my account I wasn't part of a family, but I can see that I am. So they redirected me here. User's image

Thank you for the answer, I changed my age to being +30 years, and it did nothing. There is no orginizer, so I don't know what to do now.

Hello Sebastian Sellebjerg, Thanks for posting this in our community. I truly understand how frustrating it must be to experience restrictions from Microsoft Family Safety even though you're no longer part of a family group.

To verify this, please sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/family and check if your account is still listed in any family group. If it is, you can either ask the organizer to remove you.

Next, visit https://account.microsoft.com/profile and confirm that your birthdate reflects that you're an adult. Child accounts are subject to restrictions even outside a family group, so this detail is important.

If the organizer account has been deleted or is inaccessible, unfortunately, child accounts cannot leave the group on their own.

    Kind regards,

    John Oli
