Robby Bolin’s single in the 10th inning produced a Nebraska win over Michigan State Tuesday night at the Big Ten baseball tournament.

The Big Ten Conference Baseball Tournament ended Day 1 on an electric note Tuesday. 8-seed Nebraska trailed 12-seed Michigan State by as much as three midway through the game. The Huskers added a pair in the sixth inning before tying the game in the ninth.

In the final game of the day, Nebraska faced off against Michigan State and recently anointed B1G Pitcher of the Year, Joseph Dzierwa. The 6’8” lefty was 8-2 on the season with a 2.31 ERA. He’s racked up a lot of strikeouts, but Nebraska has had a little history with him and believed they could get to him.

The victory sets up a Friday night showdown with top-seeded Oregon. The winner moves on to Saturday’s semifinals.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Joshua Overbeek hit a flyball to right field, but a dropped ball let Robby Bolin score the tying run and send the game to extra innings.

The Huskers had just come off a west coast trip where they went 3-8 after being swept at UCLA and winning one game at Southern California, with a two-game sweep over Pepperdine in the middle. They sat 2-7 in Big Ten play, and even though it was still early, looked like a long shot to reach the postseason.
