Philadelphia Phillies pitcher José Alvarado is suspended for 80 games without pay after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,
Dave Dombrowski said the positive test was caused by a weight loss drug Alvarado, 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA and seven saves in seven chances, took during the offseason.
