Microsoft has released the first Windows 10 IoT preview for Raspberry Pi 2 and other small computing devices, but it’s far from a full-blown version of the operating system.

Last summer, when the Windows Dev Center announced Windows 10 support for IoT devices, there was a lot of excitement--and skepticism--in the maker community. Anecdotally, at least, it's a Linux crowd.

It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The environment is written in Java and based on Processing and other open-source software. This software can be used with any Arduino board.
