Gov. Kathy Hochul was in Irving, New York to apologize for the "historical atrocities committed" there "and the enduring trauma."

New York’s governor plans to visit the Seneca Nation on Tuesday to formally apologize for the state’s role in running an upstate boarding school that separated Native American students from their families with the goal of assimilating them into American society.

Gov. Kathy Hochul formally apologized for the atrocities committed at Thomas Indian School in upstate New York. From 1875-1957, Native American young people who attended the boarding school were separated from their families and forced to assimilate into American society.
