Some $500 billion in cuts to Medicare could be avoided if Congress instructs the White House budget office to disregard the reconciliation package’s debt impact.

House Republicans are still battling over President Donald Trump’s massive multitrillion dollar tax and border bill, which is opposed by all Democrats. The legislation includes major boosts in funding for immigration enforcement and the military as well as extends Trump's 2017 tax cuts set to expire at the end of this year,

The Congressional Budget Office has said the bill, if enacted, would cause more than 8 million people to lose their coverage.
