Ben Griffin figured it wouldn't be easy even after immediately breaking his tie with co-leader Matti Schmid and leading by five shots just five holes into the final round at Colonial. Schmid kept it interesting all the way to the end.

Griffin (71), a University of North Carolina graduate who shared his first PGA Tour title with Andrew Novak last month in the Zurich Classic, made a 4-foot putt on the final hole to assure the victory after Schmid (72) chipped in for birdie from 28 feet away from behind the green to cut his lead to one shot.

They were at 13-under 197 after posting the same score for the third straight day at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
