Alphabet’s self-driving unit Waymo may not be as loud as Tesla in the autonomous vehicle race, but co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana says that Waymo is the only company that’s operating fully driverless rides at scale - most recently notching 10 million autonomous rides.
After announcing that it’s doing over 250,000 trips per week, Waymo said that it’s reached a total of 10 million rides.
According to Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s April earnings report, Waymo is currently providing more than 250,000 paid rides every week. This week, the company also got regulatory authority to extend its services to San Jose and other parts of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The company recalled 444 self-driving vehicles in February after two of its robotaxis crashed back-to-back into the same pickup truck being towed away. It claimed a faulty software update could result in robotaxis inaccurately predicting the movement of towed vehicles.
This post on X, which shows the Google I/O logo and a Waymo robotaxi, was spotted by the team and it seems that Google I/O may produce some news around Waymo, the autonomous vehicle unit under parent company Alphabet.
