The long-term future of the annual college football matchups between Notre Dame and USC is murky. Sports Illustrated's Pat Forde reported Monday that USC has "expressed reluctance to enter into a long-term deal" with the Fighting Irish due to uncertainty surrounding the College Football Playoff format.

The 2025 game is the last in the current contract between the blueblood programs, and the Trojans offered only a one-year extension.

While both Notre Dame and USC would like to continue its football rivalry, there are factors that could stop it from continuing.
