The US Department of Justice is set to drop a criminal case against aircraft maker Boeing despite the fact that the company agreed to plead guilty last year, according to attorneys for families of victims of two fatal crashes of the 737 Max that led to the case.

(Reuters) -The U.S. Justice Department on Friday plans to meet with the victims of two fatal Boeing 737 MAX crashes that killed 346 people in 2018 and 2019 ahead of a June 23 trial date the planemaker faces, according to a letter reviewed by Reuters.

The case arises from Boeing's admission that its former employees misled air-safety authorities before two fatal airplane crashes in 2018 and 2019.
