New legislation wouldn’t abolish the lottery, just add restrictions; sunset review could still eliminate the game

A Texas resident claimed a $1 million prize from a scratch lottery game, according to the Texas Lottery. The Grand Prairie resident purchased the winning ticket for scratch game X at Family 7, at 1665 E.

Senate Bill 3070 would allow the Texas Lottery’s games to continue under a new department, abolish the agency and create restrictions on ticket purchases.

As the Texas legislature moves one step closer to making it illegal to own land for citizens from China, Iran, Russia and North Korea who are residing illegally in the country, a group of Asian Americans gathered outside the south steps of the Capitol to express their opposition to the bill.

This session’s centerpiece legislation is the plan to allocate $1 billion annually that families can use to help pay for their children to attend private schools. The new law gives Gov. Greg Abbott a hard-fought victory and capped two years of Texas GOP acrimony over school choice.
