Legislation that sets in motion the closure of Minnesota's second largest prison over the next four years is on its way to Gov. Tim Walz's desk for signature.

The request from correctional staff and unions comes in response to a budget deal from Gov. Tim Walz and legislative leaders who propose closing the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Stillwater

Union leaders say the closure leaves staff members’ futures uncertain and poses safety risks to inmates, staff and the public.
