According to Seth Wickersham’s upcoming book, “American Kings: A Biography of the Quarterback,” Williams' father, Carl, called Chicago “the place where quarterbacks go to die” in the months preceding the 2024 NFL Draft.
Their concerns weren't unfounded. Both head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron were fired during the regular season, and even Bears general manager Ryan Poles admitted this offseason that "steps were skipped" in preparing Williams for his rookie season.
With Williams being the clear-cut top pick coming out of USC, Carl told several agents in 2024 he didn’t want his son to play for the Bears, who had the No. 1 pick.
