An already disastrous weekend is now worse for Team Penske's IndyCar program. After Scott McLaughlin crashed and both Will Power and Josef Newgarden's cars were found to have failed pre-qualifying inspection ahead of pole qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday,

The paddock remains discontent with Roger Penske's roles in the IndyCar series after another scandal bringing conflict of interest concerns into full view.

Rookie Robert Shwartzman wins pole position for the 2025 Indianapolis 500 for Prema Racing, which is in its first year of IndyCar Series racing. The 25-year-old Israeli drove his No. 83 Chevrolet to 232.790 mph over four laps on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval during Fast Six qualifying.

The first day of qualifying set positions 13 through 30 on the grid for the Indy 500. The top 12 and the last chance qualifiers will be determined on Sunday, May 18th.

McLaren Racing chief Zak Brown said the scandal that has embroiled Team Penske ahead of the Indy 500 “raises questions over the integrity” of its decision-makers. Penske was found to have illegally modified the rear accentuator on the cars of Josef Newgarden and Will Power during qualifying on Sunday, sending shockwaves down the paddock.

IndyCar stripped both cars of points earned in qualifying, fined both teams $100,000 and suspended the strategists for the remainder of the month. It means Cindric and team managing director Ron Ruzewski will miss the Indy 500 for a second consecutive year.

The NTT IndyCar Series brought the hammer down on the 20-time Indianapolis 500 winning organization Monday after reviewing all angles of the technical violations that occurred Sunday during the final day of qualifying involving the cars of race champions Josef Newgarden and Will Power.
