Get started with OneNote Class Notebooks

With a OneNote Class Notebook, students and teachers work together in a shared notebook organized into sections for both group and private notes. Each section has its own permissions, controlling what students can view and edit.

Collaboration Space

Use the Collaboration Space for real-time class or group work that students can edit, with educator oversight and controls.

The Content Library

In the content library only the educator can add and edit content, but students can refer to the pages at any time. The content library can be used to share handouts, reference materials, and other learning resources.

Student notebooks

Each student has a private notebook. Student notebooks are always accessible to the teacher—no collecting or returning required. Students can only access their own notebook, and any teacher feedback added to a page is only visible to that student. Leave feedback using text, stickers, highlighters, ink, or audio recordings.

Teacher-Only section

The Teacher-Only section is a private space visible only to educators. Use it to draft lesson plans, store answer keys, prepare content before distributing it to students, or keep notes that aren't meant for the class.

Activity

Choose one class you teach and identify three in-class or at-home activities that you could facilitate using a Class Notebook. Consider these questions:

• What resources will you include?
• What ways will students interact with the content?
• What types of media could students use in their responses to tasks?

How should you design your pages? Do you need to provide a space for students to complete their work or give them freedom to choose how they lay their work out?
