Cant delete chats that users Deactivated accounts

Please try the steps below.

1) Try deleting it from Teams on the web

Go to Teams on the web and sign in with the same Microsoft account.

Then:

• Go to Chat.
• Hover over the affected chat.
• Select More options (...).
• Select Delete chat > Delete.

2) Try deleting it from the Teams mobile app

If the web version does not work, try from the mobile app:

• Open Microsoft Teams Free on your phone.
• Go to Chat.
• Press and hold the affected chat.
• Select Delete, then confirm.

3) If Delete still fails, use Hide as a workaround

If the chat cannot be deleted, you can hide it from your chat list:

• Go to Chat.
• Select More options (...) next to the chat.
• Select Hide.

5) Update Teams and try again

Before testing again:

• Update Microsoft Teams to the latest version.
• Fully close Teams.
• Reopen Teams.
• Sign out and sign back in.
• Try deleting the chat again from both Teams on the web and the app.

6) If this only happens with chats from deactivated accounts

If the same error appears on web, desktop, and mobile, this may need Microsoft Teams Free support to review the account-side chat state.

If it still fails, please reply with only these details:

• Are you using Teams Free with a personal Microsoft account, or Teams for work/school?
• Does the error happen on Teams web, desktop, and mobile?
• Is this a one-on-one chat, group chat, or meeting chat?
• Does Hide work even though Delete fails?
