Try these steps in order:
- Close all other Edge tabs, other apps, and unnecessary extensions.
- Low memory or an extension issue can affect how pages open and display.
- In Edge, remove unneeded extensions from
edge://extensions/ if applicable.
- Make sure Edge is updated.
- Go to Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
- Install any available update, then test opening the article again.
- Test with a temporary Edge profile.
- A corrupted profile can cause Edge display problems.
- Open Command Prompt and run:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe" --user-data-dir="%TEMP%\edge-test-profile"
- If the article opens normally in that session, the original profile is likely the cause.
- Create a new Edge profile if the temporary profile works.
- Close all Edge windows.
- Go to
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data.
- Rename Default to Default.old.
- Start Edge again to create a fresh profile.
- Risk: this resets the current profile state until data is copied back. Copy only needed data such as Bookmarks from Default.old after confirming Edge is stable.
- Repair Microsoft Edge.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.
- Browser data and settings should not be affected by repair.
- Restart the computer and test again.
- A running process can interfere with Edge behavior.
If Edge still behaves incorrectly after these steps, collect:
- Edge version from
edge://version
- Recent crash information from
edge://crashes
- Application Error events from Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application
