Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi @Jo Bird,
Just to clarify, the 8-digit code you're currently seeing is typically associated with a personal Microsoft account setup, whereas work or school (business) accounts commonly use a 6-digit verification code through Microsoft Authenticator. Since the account you're trying to add is an affiliated work account (which requires a 6-digit OTP), it should be added as a Work or school account in Microsoft Authenticator.
The QR code is normally displayed the first time you sign in and set up Microsoft Authenticator. If you happened to miss that step, I'd recommend first signing in to your Security info page and trying to add Microsoft Authenticator from there.
Please follow these steps: How to add your accounts to Microsoft Authenticator | Microsoft Support
If you cannot sign in to access the Security info page, or if a previous Authenticator registration is stuck/incomplete, you'll need to contact the IT administrator/helpdesk for the company or organization that manages this work account and kindly ask them to revoke existing MFA sessions and require re-registration: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn
After the reset, the next sign-in should prompt you to set up Authenticator again and provide a new QR code.
I hope this helps point you in the right direction.
