The Microsoft Duo phone was the absolute best phone I ever had. Why isn't Microsoft pusuing an updated version?

The line is dead, officially. The Surface Duo 2 was discontinued as of October 21, 2024, and the original Surface Duo received its final security update back on September 10, 2023. Both devices have reached end-of-life and won't get further OS or security updates.
