Edge Copilot disappears after Microsoft account sign-in and sync

Hello Microsoft Support,

I have been experiencing a persistent issue with Microsoft Edge for over one year.

Problem:

When I create a brand-new Edge profile without signing into my Microsoft account, the Copilot button and AI features appear normally.

However, the moment I sign into my personal Microsoft account, Edge automatically enables Sync, and after restarting Edge, the Copilot button, Sidebar, AI Innovations, and Copilot settings completely disappear.

I have already tested the following:

  • Latest Microsoft Edge (Version 151)
  • Personal Microsoft account
  • Copilot website works normally
  • No "Managed by your organization" policies
  • New Edge profile works until I sign in
  • The issue only occurs after automatic profile synchronization

This strongly suggests that my Microsoft account's synced Edge profile or cloud sync data is causing Copilot to disappear.

Could you please investigate whether my Microsoft account or Edge Sync profile contains corrupted configuration data?

    Hi Eshan Lodh,

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially since the issue has persisted for such a long time. Thank you for the detailed description and for clearly documenting the troubleshooting you have already done.

Based on the behavior you described, the issue appears to be specific to the signed-in Edge profile or Microsoft account configuration, since Copilot and the Sidebar are available in a new local profile but disappear after you sign in and Sync is enabled. However, this alone does not confirm that the cloud sync data is corrupted. Account eligibility, regional availability or a synchronized Edge setting may also affect whether Copilot appears.

After signing in, please open the following pages and check what is shown:

    • Enter edge://settings/appearance/copilotAndSidebar in the address bar. If the page is available, make sure the Sidebar is set to Always on and Show Copilot button on the toolbar is enabled.
    • Open edge://policy and select Reload Policies. Even if Edge does not display “Managed by your organization,” please check whether any Sidebar, Copilot or extension-related policies are listed.
    • In a new profile, sign in with the same Microsoft account but temporarily leave Sync disabled. Check whether Copilot remains available. If it does, enable Sync and check again.
    • You can also try Settings > Reset settings > Restore settings to their default values in the affected profile. Please note that this resets startup, new-tab, search-engine and pinned-tab settings, disables extensions and clears temporary data, but does not remove favorites, history or saved passwords.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, cannot access or inspect the cloud configuration associated with your Microsoft account. In that case, please contact Microsoft Support and provide the full Edge version, Windows version, an exported policy list from edge://policy and screenshots of the Copilot and Sidebar settings before and after signing in. Please hide any personal or account information before sharing screenshots publicly. Thank you so much for your understanding.
