I recorded my teams meeting with a screen recorder however there is no sound. I am wondering if teams records it on their system and I can get the recording of my meeting?

    Hi Melissa,

Thank you for reaching out about the Teams meeting you recorded through a screen recorder, where the audio was not captured.

To explain the situation, this happens because a third-party screen recorder captures only what is visible and audible through your device's speakers, while Microsoft Teams manages its audio stream internally through its own system. As a result, unless the built-in Teams recording feature was turned on during the meeting, the audio is not saved separately anywhere, since Teams only stores audio and video together when the recording is started from within the app itself.

Below are some workarounds that suit your situation:

1/ Check whether the meeting was recorded through Teams

    • If the built-in recording feature was started at any point during the meeting, either by you or another participant, the recording along with its audio will automatically be saved and shared in the meeting chat.
    • You can confirm this by opening the meeting chat in Teams, selecting Shared, and checking for a recording file.
    • Alternatively, you may open the meeting from your Teams calendar and select Recap to view any available recording.
    • For more details, please refer to this article: Start, stop, and find meeting recordings in Microsoft Teams.

2/ Enable Teams recording for future meetings

    • Since the meeting was not recorded using the built-in feature this time, there is unfortunately no way to retrieve or add audio to the file afterward.
    • For future meetings, you can avoid this issue by starting the recording directly within Teams.
    • To do this, go to the meeting controls, select More actions, then Record and transcribe, and finally Start recording, so that both audio and video are captured together and saved automatically to the cloud.
    • Reference: Record a meeting in Microsoft Teams.

3/ Locate and manage your recordings going forward

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If you have any updates regarding the issue, please feel free to share them with me.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. I look forward to continuing the conversation.

If you have not activated Teams recording when in the meeting, then no such recording exists.

The screen recorder app lacked permission to capture system audio or your computer's microphone. The recorder might have been set to record only the microphone (which picks up nothing if you aren't speaking) instead of internal computer sounds.

If the Teams meeting was recorded using Teams recording, the recording is typically saved automatically to OneDrive or SharePoint:

    • Private meetings: uploaded to the meeting organizer’s OneDrive.
    • Channel meetings: uploaded to the channel’s SharePoint and also appears in the meeting chat.
    • For calls, the recording link is available in the Chat for that call, and recordings are saved to OneDrive.

To check whether a Teams recording exists:

    1. Open the meeting chat in Teams.
    2. If it was a channel meeting, also check the channel conversation and the Files tab for the Recordings folder.
    3. If it was a call, open the Chat for that call and look for the recording link.

If the meeting was not recorded in Teams, the context does not provide a way to recover audio from a separate screen recording or confirm that Teams kept a hidden copy automatically.
