Edge updates cause some apps to lose their login credentials.

Behavior started recently as prior Edge updates did not cause some apps to re-login when accessed. Examples are Facebook, Flickr and reddit. Where is the switch to turn this behavior.

Seems to happen after Edge updates and I am using a personal Microsoft account. Updates never caused this problem in the past. Options 1,2 and 3 all checked OK. Option 4 will take awhile to test - Edge needs to update and I have no idea when the next update is coming.

Does this happen after every Edge update only, or every time you close and reopen Edge?
Are you using a personal Microsoft account profile in Edge, or multiple Edge profiles?

In the meantime, you can try these steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

Option 1: Check whether Edge is clearing cookies when it closes.

Open Edge and type edge://settings/privacy/clearBrowsingData/clearOnClose on the search bar
Make sure Cookies and other site data is turned Off.

Option 2: Verify cookie settings.

Type edge://settings/content/cookies on the search bar
Ensure Allow sites to save and read cookie data is enabled.
Check that the affected websites are not listed under Clear on close or Block.

Option 3: Verify Edge profile synchronization.

Go to Settings > Profiles > Sync
Ensure Passwords and Settings sync are enabled.

Option 4: Test with a new Edge profile.

Settings > Profiles > Add profile
Sign in and check whether the websites remain logged in.

Thanks for the update. For now, please wait for the next Edge update and monitor whether the issue occurs again. In the meantime, you can try check whether a policy is forcing cookie clearing

Open edge://policy.

Look for these policies:

DefaultCookiesSetting

CookiesBlockedForUrls

CookiesSessionOnlyForUrls

ClearBrowsingDataOnExit

SaveCookiesOnExit

If these are set by the organization, the behavior is being managed there.

Surface is personal, not part of an org - there are no policies set. Also, some apps do not require a new login after edge update. One I can think of is Bluesky, which seems odd. Either they all "work" or not after an edge update. Why some but not others?

Different websites use different authentication methods and session policies. An Edge update may affect a session component that some sites rely on, while others use long-lived refresh tokens or different storage mechanisms and remain signed in.

Authentication cookies often have short expiration periods. A clock skew of more than a few minutes might invalidate them.

Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time

Turn on Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically

Select Sync now

Checked the edge sub on reddit. Others having recent login problems after edge updates too.
