Cant right click in Azure Portal search menu

title says it all. Cant right click in 'new' search menu ever since 'redesign' - this is incredibly frustrating. Going on for weeks now. Any browser, any device does not matter.

Based on your description and the screenshot, it appears that the behaviour is occurring within the Azure portal's redesigned global search experience (the "Search resources, services, and docs" menu).

At present, right-click functionality is not available in this search dropdown experience. Recent portal UI updates have changed how items in the search panel are rendered and interacted with, and the browser context menu may no longer be supported for these entries. Similar changes have been observed in other Azure portal experiences where actions previously available through right-click were moved to dedicated UI controls.

As a workaround, you can:

Open services directly by selecting the item normally.

Use Ctrl + Click or Middle Mouse Button Click (where supported by the browser) to attempt opening items in a new tab.

Add frequently used services to Favorites in the Azure portal navigation for quicker access.

Since you have confirmed that the issue occurs across multiple browsers, devices, and account types, this suggests the behaviour is related to the current portal design rather than a local browser or account configuration.

If this functionality is important for your workflow, I recommend submitting feedback through the Azure portal (Feedback button) so the Azure Portal engineering team can review the request for future improvements.

Thanks for the response @Prasad Chaganti - I have submitted feedback many times for this already. Unfortunately, none of those options give the ability to 'open in new tab.'

After reviewing the behavior described in this thread, the current Azure Portal search experience appears to handle items within the search flyout differently than traditional hyperlinks. As a result, the browser's native context menu options such as"Open link in new tab" and"Open link in new window" are not available for those entries. This behavior has been reproduced across multiple browsers, devices, and account types based on the information shared in this discussion.

At this time, we are not aware of any supported method to restore the previous right-click functionality within the redesigned search experience. The workarounds currently available are to open the selected service directly or navigate using the Azure Portal navigation and favorites experiences.

Regarding documentation, we could not find any Microsoft documentation that specifically documents support for right-click**"Open in new tab"** functionality within the Azure Portal search flyout. The Azure Portal documentation describes search and portal navigation capabilities but does not mention right-click context menu support for search results.

We understand that the removal of this capability impacts workflows that rely on opening multiple services in separate tabs. Since you've already submitted feedback, thank you for raising the concern. Product teams regularly review customer feedback when evaluating future portal enhancements.

I have exactly the same issue as @Blair Saunders but on the Entra Admin portal.

It started about a month ago. I can no longer right-click on the EntraID portal. It’s awful!

(And it's the “right-click” feature that's gone. There are no workarounds using the middle mouse button or CTRL+click.)

Use cases affected:

When searching for groups, users, or applications via the central search tab, I can’t right-click (recent issue). I have to leave the current tab...
When editing conditional access policies, I can’t open multiple ones from the “Policies” portal

I will open a ticket on the Entra Admin portal.

The account type is irrelevant. Occurs in enterprise/personal does not matter. No right click menu/nothing appears when right clicking anything in this search menu drop down.

@Senthil kumar thanks for the response - but ctrl+right click is not the same menu as simply right clicking. Im looking for the below, typical right click menu to 'Open in new tab,' 'Open in new window' etc. This functionality has been removed and its a major downgrade for seemingly no improvement or benefit.
