ASUS laptop entering BIOS

My laptop ASUS vivobook intel core i5 (running windows 11) about 5 years old has developed a recent problem, on completely random boot ups it enters BIOS mode i am able to exit and use the laptop but whenever i turn off the system and boot it up again immediately again it allows me to log in directly however i am slightly concerned . about an year ago it permenently went into BIOS mode due to UEFI driver error, however when that happened it was a sudden crash, i am concerned this is something like that, this issue started around 3 weeks ago. my computer skills are not very good so apologies if i missed something you require to diagnose the issue.

I understand your concern, especially since you previously experienced a UEFI-related issue. The good news is that because the laptop can still boot normally after exiting BIOS, this does not necessarily indicate the same problem, but it is worth investigating.

Before suggesting troubleshooting steps, could you please provide a little more information?

When the laptop enters BIOS unexpectedly, do you see your SSD/HDD listed on the BIOS storage page?
Has the issue occurred after any recent Windows, BIOS, or ASUS utility updates about three weeks ago?
When you exit BIOS, do you simply choose "Save & Exit" and Windows starts normally every time?
What is the exact ASUS VivoBook model number (for example, X515EA, M3500QC, etc.)?

Also, if possible, please check "Event Viewer" > "Windows Logs" > "System" and let us know whether you see any critical disk, storage, or boot-related errors around the time of the unexpected BIOS boot.

since ive posted my device hasnt entered BIOS yet anything i can do to check ? if i recall my windows had an update maybe about 3-4 days before the problem started but im not a 100% sure and when i exit BIOS yes i simply press save and exit and it takes me to my device log in screen. as for the model im using asus vivobook X1500EP. and when i checked event viewer around the time of the last error this was the only error seen "Miniport Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter #2, {ceba719c-f871-4864-a20b-4f003612392e}, had event Fatal error: The miniport has failed a power transition to operational power"

Since the problem is currently intermittent, I would recommend checking a few things while the system is working normally:

Open"Windows Security" > "Device performance & health" and review whether any storage-related issues are reported.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: chkdsk /scan This performs a read-only check of the drive for file system problems.

Open"Control Panel" > "Power Options" > "Choose what the power buttons do" and temporarily disable"Turn on fast startup", then monitor whether the unexpected BIOS boot returns.

Make sure any pending Windows updates have completed successfully under"Settings" > "Windows Update".

Because your VivoBook X1500EP previously experienced a UEFI-related issue, I would mainly be watching for any recurrence of the BIOS boot behavior. If it happens again, please note the exact date and time and check whether the SSD is detected on the BIOS storage page when the issue occurs.

device performance and health shows no action needed, chkdsk /scan showed 0 bad files and says no further action is required, i have disabled "turn on fast startup" and 1 new update in windows has just appeared (about 20 hours ago) please let me know if i should update it now. Next time the device enters BIOS i will note the time and check if the SSD is detected

Please install the pending Windows update and continue monitoring the system. If the laptop enters BIOS again, please check whether the SSD is detected in BIOS and note the time of occurrence.

hello today at 3:00 pm IST the device entered BIOS in the box titled storage an ssd was recognized is there anything i should do?

The fact that the SSD was recognized in the BIOS Storage section when the issue occurred is a positive sign, because it suggests the drive is still being detected by the system and is less likely to be a complete SSD failure.

For now, I would recommend:

Leave the BIOS settings unchanged unless you have previously modified them

Monitor whether the unexpected BIOS boot becomes more frequent

If it happens again, check whether the date and time in BIOS are correct, as an incorrect clock can sometimes indicate a CMOS battery issue on older devices

If possible, make sure any important files are backed up as a precaution

it entered BIOS a few minutes before i posted this comment next time i will check if date and time is accurate, however at the moment im travelling and my laptop is showing the time of my home country so the bios should be showing that time too right? also just confirming the ssd is displayed in the box titled storage in the first BIOS screen right?

Since the SSD was detected and the BIOS date/time are correct, that's a good sign.

For now, please:

Run sfc /scannow in Command Prompt (Administrator).

Check if a newer BIOS version is available for your ASUS VivoBook X1500EP.

Continue monitoring the issue and note the date/time if the laptop enters BIOS again.
