Managing sound and video settings during Teams meetings and calls for optimal communication
Dear Jonathan,
Good day, and thank you for the detailed description of your issue. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your device to diagnose and resolve this for you. Unfortunately, my role here is limited to providing general guidance and steps you can try from your side. Since other participants can hear you and you can see their speaking indicator, it sounds like your microphone and call connection are working correctly, but the incoming audio stream is either:
- Being routed to the wrong audio device.
- Failing to switch to the Bluetooth call profile.
- Affected by a device or headset-specific issue.
To help narrow this down, could you please share a few more details?
- What phone model and Android version are you using?
- What Bluetooth headset model are you using?
- Does the issue occur with other headsets, or only this one?
- Does this happen in Teams meetings only, Teams calls only, or both?
- When did this issue start happening?
- Is anyone else in your organization experiencing the same issue?
- When the problem occurs, does toggling between Speaker and Bluetooth inside Teams restore the audio?
- Is the problem reproducible, or completely random? (For example, "every third call" versus "once every few weeks".)
- Does disconnecting and reconnecting the Bluetooth headset during the call immediately restore the audio?
In the meantime, please try the following steps to see if they help. Note that the menu names and steps may vary slightly depending on your device model.
1.Toggle the audio output during the call
When the issue happens mid-call, the quickest thing to try first is switching the audio output from within Teams:
- Tap the speaker icon in the call controls.
- Select your Bluetooth device from the list of available audio outputs.
- If it is already selected, switch to Speaker first, then switch back to the Bluetooth device.
This often forces Teams to re-establish the Bluetooth call audio profile and can restore incoming audio immediately.
2.Check app permissions
Go to Settings > Apps > Teams > Permissions, and make sure the following are allowed:
Microphone
Camera
Nearby devices (this one is often the culprit for Bluetooth audio issues)
Go to Settings -> Apps -> Teams -> Permissions -> Allow access to "Nearby devices"
3.Connect Bluetooth before opening Teams
Try connecting your Bluetooth headset first, then open Teams. This lets Teams detect the headset as the active audio device from the start.
4.Reset the connection
When the problem happens mid-call:
- Disconnect the headset.
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on.
- Reconnect the headset.
- Rejoin the Teams meeting or call.
5.Clear the Teams cache
- Go to Settings > Apps > Teams.
- Select Storage & cache.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Restart Teams.
This will not remove your account, but it may clear any corrupted audio settings.
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know how it goes. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you. Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward to your reply.
