Using the New Outlook for Mac for personal email and calendar
Hi Chris Casey,
I understand that Outlook on your new Mac displays “Access denied for the resource” with tag 9hehw when you try to add your personal account.
Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot examine the account or the sign-in request directly. To determine the correct setup path, could you confirm the following?
- Are you trying to add an email mailbox to Outlook, or sign in to activate/connect your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription?
- Does the address end in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com, or is it from another provider such as Gmail? Please share only the part after@.
- What Outlook version appears under Outlook > About Outlook, and was Outlook installed from the Mac App Store or directly from Microsoft?
- Can you sign in to the same account successfully at Microsoft account?
These details are important because an Outlook.com mailbox and a third-party address associated with a Microsoft 365 subscription use different setup paths in Outlook for Mac.
Once these details are confirmed, the appropriate steps can be provided without repeating unnecessary troubleshooting.
