In 3 of our computers, in power options the "Change settings that are currently unavailable" choice in power options to disable fast start-up does not appear. It was there but did some update decide to make another problem?

    Hi, good day!

    • Do you use a personal or office computer?
    • Have you tried the AI suggested solutions?
    • Could you check one of the PCs and tell me the Windows version/build (winver)?

Open and run Command Prompt as administrator

Copy and paste the command below then press Enter

    powercfg /a

If it says hibernation is unavailable, that explains why the setting vanished.

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed by clicking "Add comment" below instead of Yes or No button.

Fast startup is controlled by the active power plan and some system settings. If “Change settings that are currently unavailable” no longer appears, it is typically because:

    1. A custom or managed power plan is active
      • When a custom power plan is selected, some options (including fast startup) can be locked or hidden.
      • Switch back to the default Balanced plan:
        1. Open Control Panel.
        2. Go to System and Security > Power Options.
        3. Select the Balanced power plan.
      • After selecting Balanced, reopen Power Options and check if the fast startup setting becomes available again.
    2. Power mode and plan behavior in Windows 11
      • Windows 11 centralizes many power settings under Settings > System > Power & battery.
      • If a custom power plan or OEM configuration is applied, it can prevent changing certain options, similar to how it can block changing Power mode until Balanced is selected in Power Options.
    3. Device- or update-specific changes
      • OEMs and updates can adjust which power policies are exposed. Some advanced or legacy power options may be hidden on modern systems or when using modern standby configurations.

If the option is still missing after switching to Balanced, the system may be using a configuration where that control is intentionally not exposed (for example, by the OEM image or a modern power policy), and it cannot be changed through the standard UI.
