It doesn't show any recommendation at all for a particular subscription. I expect at least two recommendations for Reservation, a) SQL Elastic Pool, b) App Service Plan, they've been running for years without Reservation. I can see good recommendations in other subscriptions.

Is there any switch / flag I need to set?

Azure Advisor generates reservation recommendations automatically based on your usage data. However, there are a few documented reasons why a specific subscription may not show any, even when others do.

1. Check if the subscription is included in Advisor's configuration

Azure Advisor lets you include or exclude specific subscriptions from recommendations. If the affected subscription is unchecked, no recommendations will appear for it.

→ Go to Azure Advisor → Configuration → make sure the Include checkbox is selected for the subscription in question → click Apply.

If the checkbox is greyed out, it may be a permissions issue (see point 3 below).

2. Advisor shows recommendations at single-subscription scope only

This is an important detail. Azure Advisor only surfaces reservation recommendations at the single-subscription scope. If the combined usage of your SQL Elastic Pool or App Service Plan across your enrollment is high enough to justify a reservation, but the usage within that one subscription alone isn't sufficient, Advisor won't show a recommendation for it.

As a workaround, you can check reservation recommendations directly: → Go to Reservations → + Add → select the product (e.g., SQL Database or App Service) → check the Recommended tab. This view supports shared scope (billing account level) and may show recommendations that Advisor does not.

3. Verify your permissions on the subscription

You need at least a Reader role on the subscription to view Advisor cost recommendations. If your role is insufficient, recommendations simply won't appear.

→ Check under Subscription → Access Control (IAM) to confirm your role assignment.

4. How the recommendation engine works

The engine evaluates your hourly resource usage over the past 7, 30, and 60 days and simulates costs with and without a reservation. A recommendation only appears if it identifies actual cost savings. If usage is sporadic, or if existing reservations/savings plans already cover those resources, no recommendation is generated, even if the resources have been running for years.

Summary of what to check:

Advisor → Configuration → Ensure the subscription is included.

Reservations → + Add → Recommended tab → Check at shared scope (bypasses Advisor's single-subscription limitation).

Subscription → IAM → Confirm you have at least Reader access.

Hi thanks for the quick response.

Unfortunately none of the above has made any changes. I believe this is a problem particularly for the subscription I mention as others all show good recommendateions.

I have now received another private message over email that leads to the New Support Request page but it is fixed for Technical problem and cannot select Recommencation / Adviser / Reservation.
