My HP printer has scanner but I don't see it on my computer; not on my HP

Are you using Windows 10 or 11? And which version?

Press "Windows + R", type winver, and click OK.

Use Windows to confirm that the scanner part of the HP printer is installed and then scan from there instead of looking for an HP “scan” icon.

1. Make sure the printer/scanner is turned on and connected to the PC (USB or network).
2. Check that Windows sees the scanner:
   • Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
   • In the list, find the HP device.
   • If it’s a multifunction printer, select it. In the window that opens, look for Scanner settings. If that appears, Windows recognizes it as a scanner.
3. If the scanner is not listed:
   • Still under Printers & scanners, select Add device or Add a printer or scanner.
   • Wait for Windows to search, select the HP device when it appears, then choose Add device.
4. If Windows still does not find the scanner, install or reinstall the HP printer software/driver from HP’s support site, then repeat steps 2–3.
5. Once the scanner is installed, use a Windows scanning app instead of an HP icon, for example:
   • Open Start, search for Windows Scan or Windows Fax and Scan, open it, and select the HP scanner from the list to scan the document to the PC (you can usually choose PDF as the output format).
