Recently, when I logged into some websites, I noticed that my saved passwords were gone. I checked in Edge, and only a few passwords are still there. I’m sure I had saved hundreds of passwords before. What’s going on???

Profiles / Sync are all green light.

Before we proceed with other steps can you confirm what other troubleshooting did you do when you found out that other passwords are missing in Edge? Is there any recent updates that happened specially Windows or Edge? Any events that you logged out your account, reset edge, create another profile? This is for me to narrow down the issue.

I only have one laptop for personal use, and only use this account to login edge. All sync is on and no change recently.

In edge://sync-internals/ I only found 4 passwords, you know I use this account more than 15 years...

    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Microsoft Edge usually does NOT randomly delete saved password, so what you’re seeing is always caused by a sync issue, profile change, or sign-in mismatch.

Check the basics first like you may be in a different Edge profile or sync got turned off or reset.Do a quick check if you are logged in on the correct account in Edge. Next, check if Sync settings by going to Settings → Profiles → Sync and make sure Password is set to ON.

Can you recall are there any events that you may have logged in to a different device and maybe used Edge along the way before the issue happened?

Edge itself does not silently delete passwords, but several things can make it look like passwords are “gone” even when sync shows green:

    1. Different profile than before
      • Edge stores passwords per profile. If Edge created or switched to a new profile (for example, “Profile 2”), that profile will only show passwords saved under it.
      • Check the profile button in the top-right corner. Switch back to the original work/personal profile that was used when the passwords were first saved.
      • If a new profile was created and Edge is starting with that one, set the correct profile as default and/or delete the extra profile so Edge always opens with the one that has the data.
    2. Passwords saved under a different account or device
      • Passwords sync only within the same Microsoft account profile.
      • If Edge is signed in with a different Microsoft account than before, the password list will be different.
      • Confirm the signed-in account under Settings → Profiles and make sure it matches the account originally used.
    3. Password saving or clearing settings
      • Verify that password saving is still enabled so new passwords are stored going forward:
        • Go to Settings and more (⋯) → PasswordsSettings and ensure Offer to save passwords is On.
      • Check that passwords were not cleared as part of “Clear browsing data”:
        • Go to Settings and moreSettingsPrivacy, search, and servicesClear browsing dataChoose what to clear and make sure Passwords is not being cleared regularly.
    4. How to see what Edge currently has
      • Open Settings and moreSettingsProfilesPasswords to see all passwords stored for the current profile.
      • If Wallet was used previously, that data is now surfaced through Passwords and autofill in Edge settings; passwords and payment info remain intact there.

If, after confirming the correct profile and Microsoft account, the passwords still do not appear under Profiles → Passwords, they are not present in the current profile’s storage and cannot be recovered from Edge directly. In that case, check other browsers or devices that might still hold the older password set and use Edge’s Import browser data feature (from Firefox, for example) to bring them back into Edge.
