Why is my Surface Go 3 now so slow to start since October 2025?

For the past few months my Go 3 takes forever to start up. It has the latest firmware which likely caused the problem after updating the UEFI firmware in October 2025. This cannot be undone or reversed. It takes about one minute for the spinning circle to appear after the logo splash. I tried a 'bare metal' reinstall but it's the same. Someone suggested bootrec etc but it made no difference. This product still has a few years of support to run and I would like to think Microsoft is aware of the problem and working on it. All ideas to fix this welcome.

Why don’t they simply roll the firmware back to a version that still allowed normal operation?

This delay at startup is really very annoying.

Can someone on this forum pass this issue on to the responsible team, or is this forum meant only for sharing our problems with each other?

    Hi @Steve Williams

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding your issue, I understand how frustrating it can be when your device takes so long to start, especially after an update. You’re not alone many Surface Go 3 users have reported similar slow boot issues, and it seems to affect both Windows 10 and Windows 11. This points to a software or driver-related problem rather than hardware.

To help narrow it down, please try starting in Safe Mode with Networking:

    • If the boot time is still slow in Safe Mode, that means it’s not caused by third-party apps.

Since Windows 10 has already reached end of support, there won’t be any new updates or fixes for this version. If the issue persists, the best next step is to share your experience and vote on the feedback thread here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5603982/long-booting-time-on-surface-go-3?page=%E2%80%A6

As a forum moderator and can only provide guidance based on available resources I don’t have access to engineering fixes. Your feedback and votes really help escalate this to the right team.

Thank you for your patience and for taking the time to report this. Hopefully, these steps and the feedback link will help move things forward.
