hI Louise,

Below is written by CP so save me writing it all out, any step you aren't sure on let us know. Save to Word and print it out if you only have one computer , I've used DDU so regard it as a safe app.

Using DDU in Safe Mode (Correct Procedure)

01

Download DDU (Before Safe Mode)

You must download and extract DDU before rebooting, because Safe Mode has limited network and driver support.

Go to Wagnardsoft.com (official site)

Download the latest DDU .zip

Extract it to a folder like C:\DDU (avoid Desktop/Documents to prevent permission issues)

Do not run it yet

Boot Into Safe Mode

DDU works best in Safe Mode because GPU drivers and services are not loaded.

Shift + Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart → Press 4 for Safe Mode

Alternatively: Win + R → msconfig → Boot tab → Safe boot (Minimal)

Reboot into Safe Mode

Run DDU

Once in Safe Mode, run DDU from the extracted folder.

Open the folder you extracted earlier

Run Display Driver Uninstaller.exe

If prompted, allow it through SmartScreen

Select your device type on the right (GPU)

Select GPU Brand

DDU needs to know which driver family to remove.

Choose NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel from the drop‑down

DDU will show warnings if anything is still running (Safe Mode prevents this)

Perform the Clean

Recommended Option

This is the correct cleaning option for 99% of cases.

Click Clean and restart

Wait for DDU to remove:

Driver files

Services

Registry entries

DriverStore packages

PC will reboot automatically

Reinstall GPU Drivers (Normal Mode)

After rebooting back into normal Windows, install fresh drivers.

Download the latest driver from NVIDIA/AMD/Intel

Install normally

Reboot once more after installation

Are you using a laptop or desktop?

If it's a laptop, you can go to the manufacturer's website, look for your system model and download the recommended driver.

If it is a desktop and you are using GPU, to know the model click on the start menu and type dxdiag
