Microphone not working in Duolingo

When I try to repeat a phrase (speak) in Duolingo, I get the message "Microphone Not Authorized". I have gone into Privacy and Security in App Permissions and the microphone access is turned on. Then in the Microphone setting, "Let Apps Access your Microphone" is turned on. The next step in Help is In the Microphone Settings go to "Choose Which Apps Can Access Your Microphone". and turn on apps you want to use with the microphone. I can't find a listing of apps and I can't find Duolingo. I just started using a new HP computer with Windows 11 which replaced my old computer with Windopws 10. How do I give Duolingo access to my microphone?

Hi, I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.
The Duolingo app on Windows runs from the Edge browser, make sure the Duolingo website has permissions to access the microphone on the Edge browser.

Paste the address below on the address bar on Microsoft Edge to go directly to the Duolingo website permissions and set the Microphone permission to "Allow"

    edge://settings/privacy/sitePermissions/allSites/siteDetails?site=https://www.duolingo.com

I am also having this problem. I can confirm that both Duolingo.com and Microsoft Edge are accessing the microphone, because I see in Windows Settings it is "Currently in use".

    Interestingly:

    • It does work about 5% of the time
    • Google Chrome doesn't have this issue with Duolingo

I have the same problem as Fred has. I use Duolingo already for a long time both on my laptop (Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and on my desktop PC. Both Windows 11. On my iPad and iPhone there is no problem. I did all kind of things to solve it but no result. It is very frustrating because it holds your progress.

It turned out that my problem was in the laptop settings, not with the browser settings. My problem wasn't solved by the answers that were to do with the browser I was using. I read online that I needed to go to the Control Panel on my laptop - Privacy & Security > Microphone and toggle on Microphone access there. This is probably because my computer had been upgraded for storage and everything restarted or reinstalled (not sure). Turning on the microphone in the browser or app settings didn't solve the problem because it wasn't turned on in the control panel it turned out. I hope this is useful for those looking up the same problem after Fred had it last year. I think the solution I saw was recommended in a thread on Reddit but I neglected to save where.
