An Azure backup service that provides built-in management at scale.
Hi @occasionallydennis Thank you for reaching out to us on Microsoft Q&A platform. Happy to assist!
If you are receiving an error message that the encryption passphrase provided is incorrect while trying to register the MARS agent with the vault, it could be due to a few reasons. One possibility is that the passphrase you are entering is incorrect. Another possibility is that the passphrase has been changed since the last time the server was registered with the vault**.**
To resolve this issue, you can try regenerating the passphrase by following these steps**.**
- From the MARS agent console, go to Actions Pane > Change properties >Then go to Encryption tab.
- Select Change Passphrase checkbox.
- Enter a new passphrase or select Generate Passphrase
- Select Browse to save the new passphrase.
- Select OK to apply changes.
If the Security Feature is enabled on the Azure portal for the Recovery Services vault, then you'll be prompted to enter the Security PIN. To receive the PIN, follow the steps listed in this article: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/backup-azure-security-feature#authentication-to-perform-critical-operations**.**
After regenerating the passphrase, try registering the server with the vault again using the new passphrase. If you continue to experience issues, please let me know and we can explore other troubleshooting steps.
